I used to drive a £300 1 litre Peugeot 206

Want to know one of the most underrated ways to keep your audience engaged?

Instagram Stories.

But not how most people use them.

Let me break this down 👇

Most creators focus all their energy on their main feed posts and Reels.

Makes sense - that's where the viral hits happen.

But here's what they're missing: the time between those posts is just as important.

Think about it.

What happens when you don't post for a few days?

Your audience starts forgetting about you.

Their attention goes elsewhere.

That's where Stories come in.

But not just any Stories.

The Real Life Approach

I use Stories to share random moments from my day.

Not the polished, perfect stuff.

The real stuff:

  • Playing chess and sharing the life lesson from each game

  • Jumping on my keyboard to play songs people request

  • Trying (and sometimes failing) to get my car out of impossible parking spots 😅

  • Random challenges I'm facing that day

Speaking of cars... someone asked me about my favourite in an Instagram Q&A I ran the other day.

Made me think back to 11 years ago.

I was driving a £300 1 litre Peugeot 206.

If I'd told anyone - including most of my mates - that I was going to own a Lamborghini soon, they would've laughed.

So I bought two 😂

Not to flex, but to make a point: never let others place limitations on you.

Always back yourself.

Be patient.

Do the work.

Consistently.

You're probably capable of way more than you think.

But you've got to put the work in.

Anyway, back to Stories and why they work so well…

1. It's Actually Authentic

We all talk about authenticity, but most content is still overly produced. Stories let you be genuinely real with your audience. No editing needed. No perfect shots required.

2. Creates "Friend" Energy

When you share these everyday moments, you stop being just another creator and become someone your audience feels they actually know. Think about it - what do you share on your personal Stories? Probably similar everyday stuff.

3. Keeps You Top of Mind

Even when you're not dropping your main content, these little glimpses into your day keep your audience connected. They're waiting for your next post because they're invested in you, not just your content.

4. Tests New Content Ideas

Sometimes these random Story moments end up becoming your best posts. That impossible parking situation? Could be your next viral Reel. You never know what will resonate.

To make this work

  1. Keep it casual - don't overthink it

  2. Share actual moments from your day

  3. Let your personality come through

  4. Interact with responses (that's where the real connection happens)

  5. As always, be consistent - a few Stories each day is better than 20 all at once

Why This Matters

The creators who last build actual connections with their audience.

Stories are your secret weapon for this. They bridge the gap between your main posts and keep your audience engaged even when you're not actively pushing content.

Action Step

Next time something mildly interesting happens in your day, share it on Stories. Add your thoughts. Maybe a lesson you learned. See how your audience responds.

Until next time,

Jeremy
