I can improve your Instagram bio in 2 minutes flat

[Step-by-Step Guide]

Let's chat about your social media bio.

It might seem like a small thing, but trust me, it matters. A lot.

You might be creating 10/10 content that gets people to click through to your profile (if you’re reading this newsletter then you definitely are 😉).

But if your bio confuses them or doesn't excite them for more, you're losing potential followers right at the finish line. 

Your bio needs to seal the deal. 

It needs to confirm that yes, this is the account they want to follow, and yes, they're going to get more of that great content they just saw. 

A strong bio can be the difference between someone clicking 'follow' or clicking away. 

So let's make sure yours is up to the task.👇

1) Clarity

You've got to tell people who you are and what you're about quickly. 

Instagram gives you 150 characters, and TikTok gives you 80. 

That's not much, so make every word count. 

Ditch the fluff. Be direct. 

If you're a fitness creator who specialises in home workouts, say that. 

Don't waste space with vague phrases like "Living my best life" – that doesn't tell me anything about why I should follow you.

2) Keywords

A lot of people miss this.

Think about what your ideal follower might search for. 

If you're that fitness creator I mentioned, words like "home workouts" or "quick fitness tips" should be in your bio. 

It helps the right people find you.

3) Next Steps

You need a clear, compelling call-to-action (CTA) that makes people want to act now, not later.

Aka: Tell people what you want them to do! 

Your goal should be to make it as easy as possible for new followers to engage with your content.

My best advice is to be specific

"Check out my content" is a bit bland. 

"Watch my latest YouTube video on mastering pull-ups" is more like it. 

It tells people exactly what they're getting and why they should care.

Keep this in mind:

Make sure your CTA delivers. 

If you're promising a free workout plan, it better be easily accessible and valuable. 

Nothing ruins trust faster than a broken promise or a disappointing offer.

4) Keep it Fresh

An outdated bio is worse than no bio at all. 

It tells people you're not active, not current, and not worth following. 

Reflect on your latest projects, achievements, or focus.

It takes two minutes to update, and it can make a world of difference.

Bonus

Organise your story highlights well, and they become a trailer of what people can expect from you.

Create cover images that match your brand's aesthetic and name them clearly.

You can even use these as additional links to your other socials. 

This is how I've set up mine:

I know this might seem like a lot of fuss over a small thing. But, these details matter. 

Your bio can often be the deciding factor in whether someone follows you or moves on. 

It's worth getting right.

So, do me a favour. After you finish reading this, go take a hard look at your bio. Is it clear? Does it show your personality? Does it tell people what to do next? If not, you know what to do.

You've got amazing content to share. 

Make sure your bio isn't holding you back from reaching the people who need to see it.
